Does Drinking Water Really Make Your Skin Glow?

Whenever we see any interviews with celebrities with glowing skin asking how they keep their complexion looking so healthy, you’re likely to get the same answer: drink lots of water. These famous celebrities have access to all the facials and fancy skincare products they could ever dream of, but at the end of the day, most of them swear by staying hydrated. So, do they have a point? Is water really the secret to glowing skin?

Let’s start with the water content in our body. The adult human body is 60% water and your skin contains 64% water. When you drink water, 2 things happen to your body:

  • You will flush out toxins from your body
  • Your skin will get hydrated

Dr. Ingky explains, “What happens when you drink enough water is, your skin becomes more hydrated and it will glow”. So drink up!

The role water plays in glowing skin

Drinking an adequate amount of water daily is important for overall good health. Water aids in digestion, circulation, absorption and gets rid of toxins from your body. Many people often report that by increasing their water intake, their skin has a more radiant glow. Those who suffer from acne have reported the same results. This is is because your skin consists of 64% water and 36% cells.

The human skin needs some types of natural hormones, fluids, and nutrition that can play a part in helping the skin to glow. Further, all these components are formed in the stomach during the digestive process.  The stomach digests everything you eat and converts it into either hormones, liquids, fluids, energy, or waste. Water plays a primary part in circulating and transforming these fluids and things from the stomach to the skin as well as throughout the body. This way, the skin gets the required amount of hormones, fluids, and nutrients that will help it glow.

Furthermore, water is the best thing to treat acne issues, infections, and lasting disorders. If you have blemishes and wrinkles, you need to drink plenty of water to cure these acne problems. Always carrying water is simply the best remedy for great skin. Additionally, water can also maintain the blood flow and circulation that moderates the blood pressure in arteries and veins. However, your skin needs a standard level of hydration to stay glowy, soft and smooth. If someone drinks less that the requiredamount of water, he or she will experience dry skin and some other acne problems.

How much water should you drink?

The body constantly loses water throughout the day, mostly through urine and sweat but also from regular body functions like breathing. To prevent dehydration, you need to get plenty of water from drink and food every day.

There are many different opinions on just how much water you should be drinking every day. Experts commonly recommend about 2-3 litres a day. However, you need to sip on water constantly throughout the day, and not chug it.

8 glasses a day? It’s true..

To make sure you’re getting all the water you need, aim to drink about eight glasses per day of 250ml. Try to space them out throughout the day, as your body can only absorb so much at one time. And don’t worry too much about whether it’s bottled or infused with minerals. As long as it’s clean, it doesn’t matter whether it’s drinking water or mineral water, both are perfectly fine for keeping you healthy and hydrated.

On hot days or in situations where you’re sweating a lot, take care to check in with yourself and be extra aware of your water intake. Up to 60% of your body is made up of water, so don’t be afraid to drink up! Your health will thank you for it!
