Is Micellar Water As A Makeup Remover A Myth?

Is Micellar Water As A Makeup Remover A Myth?

The French. Words such as effortless and chic come to mind when people say these two words and these beautiful women have a laissez-faire beauty secret: micellar water. It is suitable for all skin types- even the most sensitive of skins, but  in particular, acne-prone, dry and sensitive due to its hydrating and gentle nature. It is able to cleanse and remove impurities without stripping your skin and drying it out. “Micellar water contains small particles called micelles, they work like a miniature sponge, mopping up dirt and makeup while hydrating your skin. Micelles have an oil-loving ‘tail’ that traps dirt, oil, and makeup and a water-loving ‘head’ that allows the micelles to dissolve impurities so they can easily be wiped away.” says an expert

To use micellar water as a makeup remover, soak a cotton pad in the micellar water and gently sweep where you have makeup. Start in the eye area by pressing the cotton pad onto this area for a few seconds to help loosen the makeup before you sweep it away. Then use a fresh pad to do your T-zone. Again another fresh pad for the rest of your face and a last pad for your lips. The next crucial step which most people miss out is to RINSE! Since micelles work like magnets attracting dirt there are always some lingering molecules drenched in dirt/bacteria lingering- you can never be too thorough. Furthermore, micelles gather all kind of oil- both wanted and unwanted- thus leaving these particles on without rinsing may dry out the oils that nourish your skin and compromise the skin barrier. If you are wearing heavier makeup ensure you follow up with your favourite cleanser to get the remaining gunk our your pores. Remember that makeup removal does not equal clean skin!
