Are You Applying Your Skincare Products in the Right Order?

Are You Applying Your Skincare Products in the Right Order?

Whether you’re fighting a battle in the office during the day or curling up at home by night with a good book or binging your favourite Netflix Original series, a proper skincare routine is important to keep your skin healthy and radiant. Caring for your skin can seem a little tricky or confusing sometimes and we may come across situations where we stand in our bathroom questioning which skincare product do we apply first. Fret not, for we have found the answer! Follow our simple skincare routine below:

Step 1: Cleanser

In the morning, start by splashing your face with warm water or, if you have more oily skin, wash with a gentle face cleanser designed for your skin type.

Step 2:  Toner

Most people choose to skip toners, due to the long-time incorrect assumption that most toners are harsh and dry out your skin. Fortunately, that’s not the case. Toners help to deliver antioxidants and vitamins to your skin as well as removes any last traces of dirt, grime and impurities stuck in your pores even after you wash your face. Moreover, toners help to tighten and reduce the appearance of pores. Each type of toner is intended for a different skin issue, so it’s important to use the right kind for your skin concern.

Step 3: Serum

Serums are concentrated products packed with nutrients that target specific concerns and usually have a thinner consistency than a moisturiser. They provide a variety of benefits – from blunting your skin’s inflammatory response to neutralizing damage from UV rays and environmental pollutants.

Step 4:  Eye Cream

Regular use of eye cream over time will keep the eyelid skin elastic as well as helping to improve or prevent against fine lines or collagen loss. It’s about maintaining the health and thickness of the eyelid skin. Improving the skin quality in this area early on ensures that the eyelid skin does not easily lose laxity and its smooth appearance later on in life. Certain eye creams can also help to combat puffiness and dark circles, making your eyes look more awake and bright.

Step 5: Spot Treatment

As acne spot treatments differ in ingredients and application, check your product packaging or consult your dermatologist for the best way to apply it. Remember that acne spot treatments can dry out your skin, so only apply spots where you need it.

Step 6: Moisturiser

Moisturising is essential- even to those with oily skin! Although your body lubricates your skin by producing natural oils to help form a protective barrier against harsh environmental conditions, most of us do need extra hydration after the havoc that sun, weather, pollution and harsh chemicals inflict on our skin. For best results, apply your moisturiser while your skin is still damp as your skin will absorb the product more readily, locking in hydration.

Step 7: Sun Screen

Sunscreen should be the last step in your daytime skincare routine before you start applying your makeup, helping to protect your skin from harmful UV rays. If you are using a mineral sunscreen this should be the last step. However, if you use a chemical sunscreen, you should apply this before your moisturiser to increase its effectiveness.
