Coming back from a long day of work or a long night of partying and the first thought in our heads is “I just want to crash in bed”. The very last thing on our minds is removing our makeup, but sometimes if we can be bothered, we do so begrudgingly and reach for the easiest option- makeup wipes! What’s not to love? They are convenient, easy-to-use, travel-friendly, basically a lazy girl’s best friend! However, they can be the worst thing for your skin, read below to find out more!
It is not proper skincare- its a shortcut
It doesn’t truly remove all your impurities and residual makeup properly like a cleansers does as it is not formulated to actually clean your skin, so it does the job partially. This should be used as a step before cleanser, not as a replacement.
Can lead to premature signs of ageing
By tugging and rubbing your skin when you wipe your face, especially around your eye region with the fibrous rough material of the wipes, this will cause your skin to stretch, breaking down the collagen and elastin hence this can lead to wrinkles.
Can cause irritation and dry out your skin
Makeup wipes are formulated with sulfates and parabens and other harmful chemicals and preservatives that may irritate and inflame your skin, causing reactions as well as strips your skin of its natural oils by over-exfoliating your skin.
Can cause breakouts
Makeup wipes rub and smudge the dirt and oil and other makeup around your skin, leaving all the residual substances on your face, clogging your pores thus this congested skin would lead to more breakouts and blackheads.
Instead of makeup wipes, try using micellar water with on a cotton pad followed by double cleansing, then follow up with your favourite toner, moisturisers and serums!
