Back To Basics With CeraVe

Back To Basics With CeraVe

CeraVe, the key to worry-free skin

I think we can all agree that CeraVe has now poised themselves at the top of the skincare ladder. Boasting affordable prices, effective and safe formulas that are suitable for everyone and anyone. CeraVe was established in 2005 and its iconic formula was created by a team of dermatologists that developed a line of products enriched with a blend of 2 essential ceramides (ceramides 1, 3 and 6-II), fatty acids and other lipids that works to repair and strengthen the skin’s natural barrier and function. CeraVe stands out from other brands because it has received the most Seal of Acceptance awards from the National Eczema Association than any other brand.

CeraVe has certainly made a name for itself in Malaysia as many suffer from chronic skin conditions like eczema, psoriasis or dermatitis, or other compromised skin concerns that make it hard for people to find the right product that won’t further aggravate the skin. This blog post is dedicated to help people navigate their skincare routine with purely CeraVe products. With CeraVe “less is more”, you don’t necessarily need a bunch of expensive and high-end products for the best results, sometimes, all your skin needs is the basics of the basics like CeraVe.

Step 1: Cleanser

The start to all skincare routines, and probably one of the most important. Cleansing your skin is vital before applying the rest of your skincare routine. If you don’t cleanse properly, all the dirt, impurities and harmful toxins will continue to stay on and in your skin and damage your skin. They can appear in the form of acne, inflammation, redness and more. Not starting with clean skin can also counter the benefits of all your skincare products. Hence, be sure to properly cleanse your skin, either with a water or oil-based cleanser, or both.

Hydrating Facial Cleanser

An all-time favourite! CeraVe Hydrating Facial Cleanser is a non-foaming cleanser that can be used by all skin types and concerns; however, it is more suited for dry and normal skin. Like all CeraVe products, it contains its signature 3 essential ceramides, plus hyaluronic acid and MVE technology that works to continuously release moisture to the skin for long-lasting hydration. It features a creamy and smooth texture that feels like a lotion and can remove light makeup and oils. It is fragrance-free, non-irritating and non-comedogenic.

Foaming Facial Cleanser

I know some people prefer a cleanser that foams up, if not it doesn’t feel like it’s working to cleanse your skin. I know because I’m like that as well. So, if you have dry to oily skin but prefer a foaming cleanser, this is the one for you. It contains the usual 3 ceramides, hyaluronic acid and niacinamide that helps calm the skin. Unlike most foaming cleansers, this doesn’t strip your skin of its natural oils and won’t leave it feeling tight. It features a light gel texture that helps removes excess oil, light makeup and impurities. It is fragrance-free, non-irritating and non-comedogenic.

Renewing SA Cleanser

Unlike the two cleansers above, this SA cleanser is formulated with Salicylic acid. Salicylic acid provides a gentle exfoliation of the skin, removing dead skin cells, sebum and other impurities that can cause acne, blackheads or whiteheads and those tiny bumps (millia). This cleanser does not contain any microbeads or grains that can harm the surface of the skin. Other than exfoliating the skin, it can also soften and restore the skin’s natural barrier with its 3 essential ceramides, hyaluronic acid, niacinamide, and Vitamin D for extra antioxidant protection. This cleanser is suitable for acne-prone and psoriasis-skin and can be used for both face and body, especially people with back-ne or keratosis pilaris.

Step 2: Moisturize

After cleansing the skin, we need to re-introduce moisture to hydrate the skin to make-up for whatever that was loss. Moisturizers work to hydrate, balance the skin and supporting the overall skin health and barrier against internal and external mediators. Dehydration is actually one of the major culprits behind compromised skin concerns, like dullness, acne, even sagging skin. So, please don’t forget to hydrate the skin!

Threebs recommends:

Daily Moisurizing Cream

cerave daily moisturising cream

The star of CeraVe! This non-greasy and fast-absorbing moisturizer is suitable to be used both on the face and all over the body, wherever you need it. As always, the formula contains 3 essential ceramides, hyaluronic acid and MVE technology that effectively hydrates, restores the skin’s protective barrier and provides day-long hydration. This moisturizer is oil and fragrance-free, non-comedogenic and can be used on all skin types, particularly sensitive and very dry skin.

Daily Moisurizing Lotion

A more lightweight version of the Daily Moisurizing Cream, this lotion works almost identically to it. The only difference lies in its consistency, it is lighter and more easily absorbed into the skin, so you don’t have that heavy and tacky after-feel you may get with the Daily Moisurizing Cream. The Daily Moisurizing Lotion is suitable for all skin types as well, but more suited for normal to dry skin types.

SA Lotion for Rough & Bumpy Skin

cerave sa lotion for rough and bumpy skin

Like the SA Renewing Cleanser, this SA Lotion is formulated with salicylic acid and the usual ceramides and hyaluronic acid. This lotion is formulated to effectively smooth and soothe dry and rough skin. The salicylic and lactic acid exfoliates the skin of accumulation of dead skin, sebum and other impurities that can lead to bumps and breakouts, while the hyaluronic acid and ceramides hydrates and repairs the skin. This formula is non-comedogenic, hypoallergenic and fragrance and dye-free to ensure it won’t irritate the skin.

Step 3: Sun protection

Other than cleansing the skin, I consider sunscreen to be one the most important step to all skincare regimes, and most often overlooked. Sunscreen is crucial to end your AM routine. If not applied, it may render your AM routine to be futile or even cause more damage to the skin. This is especially true if your AM routine consists of any direct acids (Vitamin C/AHA/BHA) that can cause your skin to be more sensitive to UV rays. Without proper UV protection, your skin barrier will be damaged and weakened which can lead to more skin concerns, like pigmentation, breakouts, inflammation and so on. Threebs recommends a sunscreen with at least SPF30 for sufficient sun protection.

Hydrating Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF30

A hydrating yet non-greasy sunscreen with SPF30 that won’t leave you looking like Casper the Ghost, rather it gives you that healthy glow. It is formulated with 100% mineral titanium dioxide, zinc oxide, ceramides, hyaluronic acid and niacinamide. The 100% mineral sunscreen filters create a protective film on the skin to reflect both UVA and UVB rays. This sunscreen is fragrance and paraben-free, non-comedogenic and allergy tested, making it suitable for all skin types, especially sensitive skin.

Final notes

An amazing and effective skincare sometimes can be achieved with the most basic ingredients and only consisting of a handful of products. This is especially true for those with skin conditions and concerns that can’t tolerate potent and complex ingredients/formulations. Hence, we think it is important that all skin types are given a chance to shine without worrying about breaking out or being inflamed. And we believe CeraVe is the answer to worry-free skin.
