Did you know up to 80 percent of the sun’s rays can pass through clouds, so if you're thinking about skipping sunscreen on an overcast day, THINK AGAIN! Sunscreen helps to protect your skin from harmful UV rays by blocking them, lowering your risks of contracting skin cancer by more than 50%. Sunscreen also helps to prevent premature ageing of your skin by reducing the breakdown of collagen thus helping to fend off those pesky wrinkles, lines and sagging. Want an even skin tone? Sunscreen helps to do just that by preventing discolouration and dark spots from sun damage.
Your skin faces damage from the sun whether you burn or not, so ensure you apply sunscreen of at least SPF 15 or higher everyday even if you are inside and SPF 30 or higher for a day outdoors (it will protect you from 97% of the sun's rays!) at least 30 minutes prior to leaving the house. Ensure you reapply every two hours. For your body, apply at least two full tablespoons worth on any exposed area. Even if you have a darker skin tone you are still prone to sun damage so make sure to lather that suncream on making sure it is a broad-spectrum one so you gain protection from both UVA and UVB rays!
